The Multi-criterion Optimization of Building Thermal Design and Control

چکیده
The design of buildings is a multi-criterion optimization problem, there always being a tradeoff to be made between capital expenditure, operating cost, and occupant thermal comfort. This paper investigates the application of a multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) search method in the identification of the optimum payoff characteristic between the elements of the building design problem. Results are presented for the pay-off characteristics between daily energy cost and zone thermal comfort, and for building capital cost and energy cost. It was concluded that the MOGA was able to find the optimum pay-off characteristic between the daily energy cost and zone thermal comfort, but that the characteristic between the capital cost and energy cost was sub-optimal. However, it can be concluded that multi-criterion genetic algorithm search methods offer great potential for the identification of the pay-off between the elements of building thermal design, and as such can help inform the building design process.

متن کاملA COMBINATION OF PARTICLE SWARM OPTIMIZATION AND MULTI-CRITERION DECISION-MAKING FOR OPTIMUM DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE FRAMES
Structural design optimization usually deals with multiple conflicting objectives to obtain the minimum construction cost, minimum weight, and maximum safety of the final design. Therefore, finding the optimum design is hard and time-consuming for such problems. In this paper, we borrow the basic concept of multi-criterion decision-making and combine it with Particle Swarm Optimi...

متن کاملOPTIMIZATION CRITERIA FOR DESIGN OF TUNED MASS DAMPERS INCLUDING SOIL–STRUCTURE INTERACTION EFFECT
Many researches have focused on the optimal design of tuned mass damper (TMD) system without the effect of soil–structure interaction (SSI), so that ignoring the effect of SSI may lead to an undesirable and unrealistic design of TMD. Furthermore, many optimization criteria have been proposed for the optinal design of the TMD system. Hence, the main aim of this study is to compare different opti...
